How we protect and handle your data
At Shareholderview, we are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your personal information when you use our platform. By accessing or using Shareholderview, you agree to the terms outlined in this policy.
We collect the following types of information:
We use your information for the following purposes:
We want to be clear about the scope of our financial data processing:
What we access. With your permission, the ShareholderView Android app reads SMS messages in your phone's inbox to find financial notifications from supported banks, mobile-money services, airtime and utility providers (for example EcoCash, CBZ, InnBucks, OneMoney, Econet, NetOne, Hot Recharge). This includes messages already in your inbox from up to the past two years, and new messages each time you open the app. The app does not send, modify, or delete SMS messages, and does not read MMS, call logs, or contacts.
What we ignore. Messages that are not recognised as financial records — personal conversations, one-time passwords (OTPs), PINs, card details, verification codes, and promotional messages — are ignored on your phone and never stored, logged, or transmitted.
What we store. Recognised financial messages are converted on your phone into structured transaction records: amount, currency, transaction type, date, fees and taxes, balance, counterparty and merchant labels, and the sending shortcode. The original SMS text is never stored and never leaves your phone.
Cloud backup (optional). If you sign in and turn on wallet backup — or tap the manual backup button — these structured transaction records are uploaded over an encrypted connection to your ShareholderView account so you can restore them on a new phone. Backup is off by default, asked once, and can be turned off at any time in Profile settings. We never use SMS-derived data for advertising, credit scoring, lending or eligibility decisions, and we never sell or share it with third parties.
Your controls. You can decline or revoke SMS permission at any time in Android settings (the rest of the app keeps working); delete all imported transaction data from the phone and from your cloud backup (Account → Privacy & Data → Delete imported SMS data); and delete your entire account (see Data Retention and Deletion below).
If you use the optional broker-registration assistance, the app can scan your passport or national ID (camera) and read the passport chip (NFC) to capture your name, date of birth, document number, and related fields. This data is stored on your phone, encrypted with a key derived from your PIN before any upload, and transmitted only to support your registration with your chosen broker. It is never used for any other purpose.
We do not sell or rent your personal information to third parties. However, we may share your data in the following circumstances:
We do not share SMS-derived or identity data with advertisers, data brokers, or credit bureaus.
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including encryption, access controls, and regular security audits. Data is encrypted in transit using TLS, and the ShareholderView app offers PIN and biometric locking to protect access on your device. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
You have the following rights regarding your data:
We retain account data, backed-up transaction records, and identity data until you delete them. You can delete your data at any time:
Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.
